When Chinese Army reached Bomdila in the 1962 war , there was fear and panic in Assam over imminent Chinese occupation. By that time, Indian Army lost all hopes and was in no position to fight back. In that gloomy moment, with the fates of generations of Assamese at stake, John F Kennedy going against the advices of his counsel decided to back India. He announced that US will help India in all ways possible. To back up his statement he ordered USS Kitty Hawk to move to Bay of Bengal to check Chinese aggression. The Chinese retreated , thereby , saving the fate of Assam and Assamese. WE OWE A LOT TO JOHN F KENNEDY
