After slaying Ravana, Maryada Pursottam Sri Ramchandra returned to Ayodhyay thus ending his 14 years of exile. People of Ayodhyaya lit 14 lamps in their house as Rama's entourage passed by in twilight hours. Thus , Diwali began. Happy Diwali
